This family room was all brown! Dark leather couches, dark wood furniture, and dark wood trim. The space needed color, texture, and interest.
The sofa and loveseat were in good shape, and their scale was right for the large room. We decided to keep them, as well as the wall color, which was neutral and easy to design around.
Adding two swivel chairs in light-colored, nubby linen made the furniture arrangement conversational and more functional for TV viewing. We upholstered an ottoman in a red ikat pattern to add pop, and then used red as the accent color in the pillows. Drapery panels in a neutral zebra print framed the wood windows and added a softer touch. A suede drum table with silver nailheads added interest and shine.
To complete the project down the road, we plan to replace the carpet with wood and add an interesting area rug.
